Encrypt a file
Choose files or a folder, set a password, and download the encrypted files plus a key that must stay in the same folder.
A lost password cannot be recovered. The key file does not contain the password. Opening works only when hash-lock.key is in the same folder as the encrypted files. The browser cannot see a USB stick or lock the computer. The optional hint is stored in clear text.
Choose one file, several files, or a whole folder. Set a password. The page encrypts each file with AES-256-GCM and downloads the encrypted files plus hash-lock.key. Put the key in the same folder as those files, on this computer or a USB drive. To open them, choose that folder and type the same password. The password is not stored in the key. A lost password cannot be recovered. Tools in Tab does not keep the files, the key, or the password. The Hash_Lock database is a separate download for logins.

- How do I open the files?
- Choose the folder that contains hash-lock.key and the encrypted files, then type the same password. The key does not open files that are somewhere else.
- Is the password inside the key?
- No. The key is a separate secret. You still type the password. Tools in Tab does not keep either one.
- What is the Hash_Lock database?
- A different download for logins and notes. File encryption on this page is the encrypted files plus hash-lock.key.
